Wanted to pass on this message from Joe Mercola about the Flu shot. I’ve been hearing a lot of you talk about it recently and I have bit my tongue, until now. For more from Dr. Mercola, got to www.mercola.com.

Why do People Still Believe in the Flu Shot?

But getting back to the vaccines, Big Pharma may appear idiotic, but they are no fools. They know people want guaranteed safety. “Here, take this shot and nothing bad will happen to you,” they say. And a lot of people believe them, even when evidence of the opposite comes out. They just want the magic pill to be true.

Some hard-hitting evidence released just a couple of months ago should make anyone think twice about the flu shot: flu vaccines have NEVER been proven to prevent flu-related deaths in people over age 65, which is one of the primary groups for which they’re recommended.

You may also be shocked to learn that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grossly distorts the facts about flu deaths. If you go to the CDC’s main flu page, you’ll see their statistic that about 36,000 people die from the flu in the United States each year.

But if you search a little harder, you can find the actual number of people who died from the flu in 2005 (this is the most recent data that’s available). Want to take a guess at what it is?

In 2005, 1,806 people died from influenza, not 36,000. And in 2004, there were just 1,100 flu deaths.

The statistics the CDC gives are skewed partly because they classify those dying from pneumonia as dying from the flu, which is not at all true or accurate. For instance, their 2005 statistics lump influenza and pneumonia deaths together, at 62,804 deaths.

But broken down, there were 60,998 deaths from pneumonia and just 1,806 from the flu.

This will not stop the powers-that-be from touting their yearly fall warnings about this year’s upcoming flu season, and all the flu deaths that will follow. The media (which is largely controlled by corporations, many of which are making or selling the flu shots or the junk food that will actually make you more vulnerable to the flu) would have you believe that getting the flu shot is all you need to do to stay healthy all winter.

How to Prevent the Flu Naturally

For most people the flu shot does not make you healthy; it does just the opposite, as it weakens your immune system. It appears that some of you in the medical field are beginning to catch on to this, with less than 40 percent of health care workers getting flu shots in 2006.

The truth is, if you follow a healthy lifestyle, you will not have to worry about getting the flu.

Take it from me — I’ve never received a flu shot, and I haven’t missed a day of work due to illness in over 20 years. The key steps that I follow to stay flu-free, which I suggest you follow too, include:

Get plenty of sunshine or vitamin D

Eat right for your nutritional type, including avoiding sugar

Exercise

Get adequate sleep

Address emotional stress

Wash your hands regularly

Nick and Drew say, “We are totally addicted to Blogsoma!”…incidentally, we are 7 weeks and one day old.

Blogsoma Links
Today we enter what I call affectionately, “Pineal Season”. This is the interval that runs from two weeks before to two weeks after we “Fall Back” at 2am SUN, NOV 4th. Here’s two ways to prepare…

Feed The Pineal!
Zinc: sunflower seeds, celery, cashews, almonds, lentils, brown rice, and tofu
Copper: pecans, raisins, molasses, peanut butter and legumes (peas)

Meridian Meditation
Use each day to open your awareness to one of the 12 acupuncture meridians and the 2 vessels that unite to create your mircocosmic orbit. Use this link as your guide and spend
a minute each of the next two weeks with a meridian per day. Reverse the sequence once we
make the time change for full benefit. It takes a minute, so hey, it qualifies as a SIMPLE too!
  http://www.acupuncture.com.au/education/meridians/meridians.html

And in case you still have no clue what a SIMPLE is, I’m going to keep drill it through you:
  http://www.somaspace.org/SIMPLES.html

Happy Day.

If you have been reading my column for a while or if you happen to have read my blog at www.drjeb.wordpress.com, you will have heard me use the phrase, “The present is always perfect, and your physical universe never lies.” My good buddy, Dr. Tony Palermo has used this phrase for years and it always resonated with me.

Very often, at the peak of a “challenging time” , I have said this phrase, over and over and OVER again…used it as a mantra to get keep me in the moment and to remain calm…like one of my yoga instructors says during a particularly difficult, thigh burning, mind numbing posture, “This is what yoga is all about, it’s about remaining calm in an uncomfortable situation.” Sounds an awful lot like coherence to me…calmness in an uncomfortable situation, is a state of Coherence.

The fact that the present is perfect, doesn’t mean that you feel no pain or are not uncomfortable…It may be as simple as reminding you just how difficult things can get, so that you appreciate your hot and cold running water, your
beautiful life and family, the fact that someone is picking up your stinky, smelly, rotten garbage and hauling it away.

Listen, there have been plenty of times in my life when I was having a hard time dealing with a particularly difficult situation and I complained very loudly…I know that complaining doesn’t help fix the problem, BUT sometimes, it makes you feel better in the moment, which allows you to move UP the emotional scale from hopelessness and despair! In my book anger is better than despair, any day. the trick is to continue working your way up the scale, all the way to GRATITUDE.What does this have to do with Community Health and The Colonial Theater? <!-- D(["mb","\u003cbr\>\n\u003cbr\>Okay, so I am "taking the long way home" here, bear with me.\n\u003cbr\>\u003cbr\>First things first...Community Health.
The bottom line is this…health and happiness begins with the individual. The more coherent we are, the more health, happiness and, this is the biggie, quality of life we have. By accepting that the present is always perfect, we accept full responsibility for our lives and the results of our actions. Healthy, happy individuals tend to make decisions that result in communities that allow places, like The Colonial Theater to not only exist, but to thrive.

When we have beautiful places to gather, to laugh, to cry, to sing and to celebrate, then it follows that we must have a community that is in pretty good health…be grateful.

Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?
With love and Gratitude.

I have been asked this question more in the last 5 weeks than any other time in my life…seems as though people are reading my mind, or maybe it’s the bags under my tired eyes.

My routine answer has been “More than Nora and probably less than you.”

Another phrase I have heard a lot lately is, “Sleep is overrated.” HUH?

Now let’s think about that…If you are getting 8 solid every night, sleeping when you want, with no distractions, then you may take sleep for granted. If, however, your sleep is constantly interrupted, like a refugee on the run, a soldier under siege or oh, I don’t know, a parent of 6 including newborn twins, you may not be so cavalier about how you refer to sleep, oh wonderful sleep.

That being said, I am so grateful for the sleep I am getting and for hot and cold running water, people who haul my garbage away every week, the wonderful meals that our community continues to bring to our house every day and, of course, these 2 healthy, eating pooping, sleeping and now smiling baby boys, that it brings a tear to my eye as I write this.

I must say that I am very grateful and proud of my other 4 children, Luke, Calvin, Kelly and Grethe, for the patience, courage, love and support they have shown duirng this time of tremendous transition…I love you all very much. Thank you.

With Love and Gratitude,

Sweet and crunchy, with a slight hint of citrus…that’s what the fortune cookie tasted like, a few nights ago…

“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”…that’s what the fotune said. It really resonated with me at the time, not sure why, it just did. Maybe it was because I had just been talking to my Brother-in-law, Drew, about laughter. He had just written about it in his blog.

When I read the fortune, I had just finished wolfing down some delicious, Chinese cuisine from China Wok, here in Keene, and I was on my way to hold one of the twins. The mood was tense in the house, as it has been from, time to time, since the twins came home…as we are still “finding our rhythm”. I thought about laughter and how it is the one thing that always breaks the tension. The higher up the “stress wave” we go, the greater thrill, when we head down the other side… laughing all the way.

I thought about how a funny moment among a group of strangers instantly bonds them forever, and how in the midst of some of our darkest times, laughter shows up and gives us that lift we need, that short vacation from the harshness of the moment.

Thanks for reading, and please leave me a post and pass this along to your friends.

Until next time..With Love, Gratitude and Laughter…yeah, lots of laughter.

Dr. Jeb

Hey gang.

Like the Beatles said, ” Obladi oblada life goes on bra
Lala how the life goes on…” And so things here at Thurmond and Rozell household, continue to move forward, never looking back and never to be the same again. Just the way we like it.

Doing the Radio show…with some help.

As I said in the title, we are finding our rhythm. It is not the same old same old, it is a brand new rhythm that brings with it a whole host of unexpected delights. As I have said before, “Change is the only constant, learn to embrace it or forever be disappointed.”

After the boys arrived, I spoke these words out loud, “What we get isn’t always what we expect…” I kept rolling those words over in my head, trying to get a grasp on what they mean to me. I inverted the sentence to say “What we expect isn’t always what we get…”, I asked myself, “Do we always get what we want?”. Are our lives a product of intentions, expectations, desires, actions or wants? or is it a combination of those and many other factors?

My opinion is that it’s all of the above. If we only “want” something, then we will always “want” it and never actually get it. If we want something, and then intend to have it, and see ourselves with it, actions and events will follow that will allow our vision to manifest. All the while, being grateful for what we have.
(for another perspective on the Law of Attraction, visit www.drewrozell.com )

The really cool thing is, we do get exactly what we want, just not the way we expect to get it. The trick is knowing what we really desire and, setting the intention for it to happen and then allowing the process to be. The key for me is staying “coherent” while encountering the unexpected. A good friend of mine, Dr. Tony Palermo always says, “The present is ALWAYS perfect, and the physical universe never lies.” Tony is saying that to accept the present moment as perfect, allows us to stay in the moment with “clarity”, or “coherence”. By staying “coherent” in the moment, one is more effective at navigating and maybe even affecting change over time.

Does that make sense? You see I never expected to have twins, and never expected for Nora to have to have a C-section. I did want to have a big family of healthy babies, and I longed for the experience of basking in the glow of newborn babies in the comfort of my community. So much so, that I/we were willing to throw our hat back in the ring, as it were, after losing a Ava, less than 2 short years ago. We ultimately received more than we could have ever expected, and in a way that was unexpected, and sometimes VERY difficult. We wanted and intended to have this experience, remained coherent through the process, made decisions and took actions that were congruent with what the moment called for…and now, well, now the Present is Perfect.

If you have taken time to read this post, PLEASE let me know that you did by posting a comment…Is there anything else you’d like to know, about me, about what I do? Be sure to listen to our most recent radio show at Blog Talk Radio .

Until next time, with Love and Gratitude,

Papa Jeb

Drew and Nick came home on Tuesday, September 4th.

It is just two days later, and it’s as though they’ve always been here…the fatigue of a newborn X 2 is far overshadowed by the fact that we have 2 healthy babies.

The last 3 of our first 5 children (pictured above-minus Ava Mae- admiring their new little brothers) required, emergent and/or life saving care…

Kelly, who has Down Syndrome, was born at home. Since we had not performed any pre-natal ultrasounds or chromosomal testing, his condition was a bit of a surprise. Because of his Down Syndrome, we had him checked out at Dartmouth Medical Center, where he was admitted to the NICU, with numerous heart abnormalities. He was sent home 6 days later after much angst, many tears and inumerable prayers, with a clean bill of health. Apparently, Kelly’s heart was taking its time going through its post-natal metamorphosis. Kelly now brings us joy beyond compare. Kelly’s Uncle Matt had Kelly figured out long before any of us did.

Grethe was born at home, and promptly turned the color of slightly faded blue jeans…this is not a healthy baby sign, in fact, it’s a great way to ensure really crappy APGAR scores. My feisty little girl was clearly working hard to breathe and did so for the 20 minutes that it took us to get her into the car to the hospital–the midwife breathing for her the whole way!– where she was intubated(tube into her windpipe for air), stabilized and given the diagnosis of a congenital, diaphragmatic hernia…a huge hole in the left side of her diaphragm had allowed her intestines to travel up where her left lung should have developed. Subsequently, her left lung was about the size of a walnut. Grethe earned some serious frequent-flier miles, as she was flown to Dartmouth and then on to Boston Children’s Hospital in the first 24 hours of her life. Boston became her home for the next 30 days. Grethe came home from the hospital on the 29th of October, 2002 and she has never looked back…she will be 5 years old on the 30th of September. As one can see, Grethe turned out just fine.

We knew Ava was special, after an ultrasound and subsequent amniocentesis at 30 weeks confirmed that she had Trisomy 13, a chromosomal abnormality that is incompatible with life. Most children with Pateau’s s Syndrome, as it is called, live less than a year and many are stillborn. When Ava came to us 31/2 weeks early, we had no idea what to expect, and we could never have believed how much she would change our lives. Ava was with us for 9 days, and she was held almost every minute of her life, mostly by us, and often by our close knit group of friends and family. Ava spread love and and brought our community and family closer together than we had been before. Ava left this world a better place than she found it.

Bittersweet times…

So you see, when I say that “the fatigue of a newborn X 2 is far overshadowed by the fact that we have 2 healthy babies.” I really mean it. We are thrilled- to have 2 healthy babies, who cry, nurse, poop and sleep, (often simultaneously!) and who came home from the hospital uneventfully-to the point of being giddy.

We want to thank all of our friends and family who have supported us with love, nourished us with good food and held us in your thoughts and prayers. The collective sigh of relief at the boys homecoming was not lost on any of us…believe me.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

With Love and So Much Gratitude,

Dr. Jeb

Andrew Anthony and Nicholas Benjamin Thurmond were born yesterday at 12:41 and 12:42 PM. After 12 long hours of hard labor, the decision was made to proceed with a c-section and bring ‘em on home, as it were. Andrew Anthony, named after his Uncle Drew and Grandpa Tony, was 7 lbs. 7 ounces. Nicholas Benjamin, named after his Grandpa Nick and Uncle Benny, was 6 lbs. 6 oz., how’s that for symmetry.

As suspected, they are identical…so far we have managed to remember who is who, on the first try, about 3 times.

Nora is recovering well and continues to amaze and thrill me with her strength and spirit.

I’ll get some photos up here asap.

With a happy heart, tired body and so much gratitude,

Hey Gang…It’s been some time since I have been in touch with some of you, and for some of you, this is the first time ever! To all of you, welcome to my blog. Where this is going to take me, I am not sure, what I am sure of is this, my lovely wife, Nora, is going to deliver twins, any day now.

In fact it could be any moment now. One of my good friends, Diane, (Hi Diane!) just asked me if I was going to let everybody know when the babies were born…So, I jumped on to www.wordpress.com and became a created my own “BLOG”, just like Curt Schilling.

My intention with this blog is twofold, in the short-term, I am going to use it to communicate with all those who are interested in the “status” of our babies. Keep posted and you will be the first to know. In the long-term, I will use this space to let you all know what is happening at Evolution Chiropractic, LLC and beyond. Think of it as a newsletter, that you can acess any time of the day…AND even better, you can respond to me and give me feedback.

Keeping my eye on the “rainbow bridge”…

With Love and Gratitude,

Dr. Jeb
