Getting any sleep?

I have been asked this question more in the last 5 weeks than any other time in my life…seems as though people are reading my mind, or maybe it’s the bags under my tired eyes.

My routine answer has been “More than Nora and probably less than you.”

Another phrase I have heard a lot lately is, “Sleep is overrated.” HUH?

Now let’s think about that…If you are getting 8 solid every night, sleeping when you want, with no distractions, then you may take sleep for granted. If, however, your sleep is constantly interrupted, like a refugee on the run, a soldier under siege or oh, I don’t know, a parent of 6 including newborn twins, you may not be so cavalier about how you refer to sleep, oh wonderful sleep.

That being said, I am so grateful for the sleep I am getting and for hot and cold running water, people who haul my garbage away every week, the wonderful meals that our community continues to bring to our house every day and, of course, these 2 healthy, eating pooping, sleeping and now smiling baby boys, that it brings a tear to my eye as I write this.

I must say that I am very grateful and proud of my other 4 children, Luke, Calvin, Kelly and Grethe, for the patience, courage, love and support they have shown duirng this time of tremendous transition…I love you all very much. Thank you.

With Love and Gratitude,

Dr. Jeb
