Fortune Cookie

Sweet and crunchy, with a slight hint of citrus…that’s what the fortune cookie tasted like, a few nights ago…

“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”…that’s what the fotune said.  It really resonated with me at the time, not sure why, it just did.  Maybe it was because I had just been talking to my Brother-in-law, Drew, about laughter.  He had just written about it in his blog.

When I read the fortune, I had just finished wolfing down some delicious, Chinese cuisine from China Wok, here in Keene, and I was on my way to hold one of the twins.  The mood was tense in the house, as it has been from, time to time, since the twins came home…as we are still “finding our rhythm”.  I thought about laughter and how it is the one thing that always breaks the tension.  The higher up the “stress wave” we go, the greater thrill, when we head down the other side… laughing all the way.

I thought about how a funny moment among a group of strangers instantly bonds them forever, and how in the midst of some of our darkest times, laughter shows up and gives us that lift we need, that short vacation from the harshness of the moment.

Thanks for reading, and please leave me a post and pass this along to your friends.

Until next time..With Love, Gratitude and Laughter…yeah, lots of laughter.

Dr. Jeb

    Jeb–

Once coherence is obtained, how is it maintained? Should one expect to be in and out of coherence, like balancing on a ball? When we spoke last week, I couldn’t believe how I felt. Saturday wasn’t so kind–anxiousness and fear and fatigue. How does one stay coherent on the downside of the wave? Practice? Acceptance? Patience?

    HI Cindy,
Great Question! What’s even more cool, is that you answered your own question.
Let me just add a little bit to it.

Maintaining coherence is like surfing…the better you get at it the bigger the waves you can handle, at the same time, you can’t stay on the wave forever, it’s gonna break when it hits the beach.

Being coherent is about being mindful of the BOTH SIDES OF THE WAVE…where there is a crest or peak, there is going to be a trough. The key to navigating these is understanding when to go full throttle and when to back off a bit; when to go with the wave and when to turn and go back into it.

For instance, we are just coming into a full moon, so we are in an ONTO week. The rising mood of ONTO is creativity and authority, so you are feeling the pressure or push from that as ;you are anticipating the upcoming court date…doesn’t get much more authoritarian than going to court. After the full moon you will be in another ECO week which is repair and recover=vacation week.

Your “coherence” discussion brings to mind the chinese concept of Yin-Yang. The paradox of opposing yet complimentary forces. The study and understanding of Yin-Yang, especially how to apply it in one’s own environment, is a lifelong endeavor and practice.

    Hey Pat-
Nice observation. You are exactly right. When the principles of Yin-Yang are successfully applied, on a regular basis, coherence is the result. Coherence is simply the state of balance or clarity. We measure it by looking at specific characteristics of the heart rhythms, called “heart rate variability”. The cool thing about coherence is that it can be used as a measure of effectiveness for any number of approaches to balance. Meditation, the application of Yin-Yang, chiropractic care, psychotherapy, etc. The ultimate goal of these philosophies or modalities is a sense of clarity that puts our physiology at ease. In this state, we have a balanced nervous system, a stronger, more adaptable immune system and a greater ability to deal with whatever stress is thrown our way.

    Great to connect with you.
